  Attic dialect crasis ἅνθρωπος, Ionic dialect ὥνθρωπος, for ὁ ἄνθρ-:— man, both as a generic term and of individuals, Homerus Epicus etc. , opposed to gods, ἀθανάτων τε θεῶν χαμαὶ ἐρχομένων τ᾽ ἀνθρώπων Ilias Homerus Epicus “Illiad” 5.442, etc. ; πρὸς ἠοίων ἢ ἑσπερίων ἀνθρώπων the men of the east or of the west, Odyssea Homerus Epicus “Odyssey” 8.29 ; even of the dead in the Isles of the Blest, prev. work 4.565; κόμπος οὐ κατ᾽ ἄνθρωπον Aeschylus Tragicus “Septem contra Thebas” 425, compare Sophocles Tragicus “Ajax” 761.
