ὑπο-κρίνομαι [in LXX: (Jb 39:32 (40:2)) אּ1 (AB אּ2 ἀπο-, עָנָה H6030), Si 1:29 35 (32):15 Si 36 (33):2, II Mac 5:25 6:21, 24, IV Mac 6:15, 17 * ;] 1. = Att.. ἀποκρίνομαι (q.v.), to answer, reply (Hom., Hdt., al.). 2. to answer on the stage, play a part (Arist., al.). Metaph., to feign, pretend (Demos., Polyb.): c. acc et inf., Lk 20:20 (cf. Ps Sol 4:22).†
